Here at Innisfil Wellness Centre, we want to help you take charge of your health. If you are suffering from an acute injury or long-term condition, you may benefit from one or more chiropractic adjustments. Your chiropractor will use manual pressure and manipulations to move your spine or other joints into a better alignment, allowing these body mechanisms to do their jobs more effectively, giving you the support and mobility you need with less pain. Of course, seeing any health professional for the first time can feel intimidating, so to help you feel more comfortable, our team has put together this brief overview of what to expect from your first chiropractic adjustment.
- Discussion of Medical History- Before your chiropractor gets to the actual adjustment, they will take the time to get to know you and discuss your medical history. You will be asked about why you are seeking treatment, as well as past injuries, current medical conditions and medications, and even your diet, exercise, and sleep habits. All of this will help our experienced chiropractors tailor their approach to your specific needs.
- Physical Exam- After the interview potion, the chiropractor will perform a physical exam. Chiropractors typically feel the patient’s spine and joints; test muscle strength, reflexes, and range of motion; and even watch how the patient walks or moves to see their biomechanisms in action. Depending on the situation, your chiropractor may also order x-rays or a blood pressure check.
- Chiropractic Adjustment– For the actual adjustment, you will typically be asked to lie on a special treatment table. The chiropractor will manipulate your neck, back, or other body part being treated and move it to its maximum range. To make the adjustment and move the joint into place, the chiropractor will apply thrust–you will feel additional pressure, and may hear a popping sound similar to cracking knuckles, but should feel no pain.
