learn more about acupuncture

Acupuncture is a very old and established form of Chinese holistic healing wherein small, very thin needles are inserted into key areas to help reestablish an overall sense of health and wellness. There are many people who swear by the usefulness and healing powers of acupuncture, but it is not uncommon to be a little nervous at your first appointment, especially if you aren’t sure what to expect! Here at Innisfil Wellness Centre, we enjoy giving our patients a more holistic approach to their healing by providing them with a wealth of healing choices, including acupuncture. If you are coming into your first acupuncture appointment, here are a few things you can expect to happen.

First, don’t be afraid. A skilled acupuncturist is incredibly gentle, leaving the needles in for a short time (usually less than thirty minutes) and so skilled at the insertion of these needles that you might feel little or even no discomfort. Unlike other experiences with injections you may have had, acupuncture needles are incredibly thin — think mosquito bite rather than blood donation.

Second, there might be heat lamps present to help warm you. There will also be other comforting things such as music playing, the ability to remove your socks and shoes and comfortable seating or tables.

Third, take a few moments after your treatment to discuss any questions you might have and allow yourself a moment or two. Sometimes people can feel lightheaded when they aren’t used to acupuncture and need a minute to regain their composure.
